Abstract

Language suggests the nation. Through language, we can know character and culture of the people. Through language, we can know the mindset of the people. This article aims to discuss the reflection on using intellect language in social media as an educational character for the Indonesian people. Intellect language means language used to express intelligence, ingenuity, and the greatness. By using Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, it was found that the shape of intellect language used in social media is (1) the addition of suffix- ization on nouns, (2) the addition of suffix –ism on nouns, (3) the addition of suffix -ization of the verb, (4) reversal of nominal phrase construction, (5) the addition of memper- prefix on adjective, and (6) the use of unproper diction. The use of intellect language reflects the culture of Indonesian people who like (1) serpentine, (2) reversal of the facts, and (3) knowing everything. Through this reflection, we can figure out what character education is contained in intellect language. They Are (1) to tell the truth, (2) being sportsmanship, and (3) being open minded.
