Abstract

Reform agenda of thought in the Islamic world has been going on intensively since two centuries ago, and in Indonesia took place in a massive scale since the 1950's, both of which take place in the intellectual life on campus and off campus.However, it must be admitted that it had not been followed by awakening a solid methodological foundation and can be widely accepted by the academic community. Even if it's already done, but most still do not meet at least two basic requirements, that is able to appreciate the treasures of classical Islamic scholarship that is deprived of historical long roots, and subsequently accepted by the academic community in general due to meet the standards of philosophical, theoretical and operational as the development of science in general.Therefore, this paper is to elaborate a methodological paradigm called integrative methodology (jama'i).This methodology integrates Usul Fiqh and Hermeneutics as an approach / methodology in Islamic studies. As known, Usul Fiqh and Hermeneutics doubt his ability as a reliable methodology in Islamic studies as epistemological and axiological problems it faces. Usul Fiqh as one of the main result of Islamic thought is still evolving doctrine merely memorized doctrine, and not developed, or at least demonstrated its potential as a method that can answer contemporary issues. Paradigm Usul Fiqh, as taught in college, still-literalistik doctrinal and can not follow the breath of the cool by contemporary science. Hermeneutics while faced with an epistemological problem. Applying Hermenutika paradigm in the study of Islam (Qur'an) has the consequence of eliminating the verbatim message of god, which means doubting the authenticity of the Qur'an. Moreover, Hermeneutics was originally developed as a method for interpreting the Bible, which is different from historical authenticity of the Qur'an. This paper tries to solve the next problem is with the epistemological and axiological reconstruct Usul Fiqh and Hermeneutics. Both disciplines are combined into an integrative methodology (jama'i) so that the interpretation of the text to be productive and able to follow the natural and human phenomena that continues to grow. Hermeneutics is placed as a model of interpretation (ta'wil) to get the authentic meaning of the text so that the gap between text and context can always be overcome. While Usul Fiqh is the science that actually focuses on reality. Usul Fiqh is the methodology that is practical. She is a method of revelations, who want to restore the texts on the reality or human behavior, horizontalfrom God to nature, so do not be surprised if at the beginning of its development free from metaphysical thinking as based on a simple language which is taken from reality.
