Abstract
This study aims to analyze the medical register, linguistic form, and function of the medical register used by the medical personnel characters in the New Amsterdam movie series (2018). The researcher used a qualitative descriptive approach to categorize the data in this study. In this study, the researcher used Halliday's 2014 register theory to help analyze the data. The data source used in this study is the New Amsterdam movie series season 1 episodes 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, which aired in 2018. The data collection technique used by the researcher is to search for text transcripts from the New Amsterdam movie series. The researcher watches the movie series while matching it with the transcript to ensure the truth between the transcription and the series. After that, the researchers categorized the medical register data based on the type of linguistic form, namely word and phrase. The results of the analysis of the data that researcher have found concluded that there is a total of 63 medical register data in the New Amsterdam movie series season 1 in episodes 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. The medical register data consists of 29 words data and 34 phrases data. From these results, each register has its own meaning and functions for efficiency in communication, to show identity and professionalism, and to provide information related to patient conditions, specific names of diseases, names of medical devices, and names of medical procedures. The use of medical registers used by medical personnel in the series greatly affects their speed in treating patients.
