Abstract

Digital Multimodal Composing (DMC) is a new way to communicate information using various forms of media and technology. This research aims to explore the experiences of EFL pre-service teachers in creating digital multimodal media, the challenges they face, and how they overcome them. Using a narrative inquiry approach, the study involved interviews and assessments of digital media created by four EFL teachers who were students in an English Language Education Department and had completed their second teaching internship (PLP). The findings revealed critical milestones in the process, considering factors like learning objectives, supporting tools, student needs, content accuracy, and time availability to use media. The teachers used multiple modes, such as visual, linguistic, and audio, in specific online applications to create their digital media. They faced challenges like dependence on a stable internet connection and balancing media development with other internship tasks. To address these issues, they implemented specific strategies. Overall, the study suggests that digital multimodal media can be beneficial in English language teaching. However, while composing it, pre-service EFL teachers should carefully consider preparation, processes, and potential issues to minimize shortcomings when implementing it in the classroom.
