Abstract
English learning in vocational high school (SMK) should be different from regular high school, therefore there is a term of ESP (English for Specific Purpose). ESP then should meet the students’ specified needs andmake the students’ learn something based on their reason for learning.A good syllabus must be suitable to the student needs.In fact, the the existing syllabus being used is not based on the needs analysis in the field.The objectives of the study are to find the needs of the students of SMKN 1 Bangkalan, to compare the existing syllabus based on the needs analysis, and the syllabus. The type of the study is descriptive qualitative study. The object of this study is the eleventh grades students in accounting program at SMKN 1 Bangkalan. In this study the writer uses questionnaires, interview and document studies. In the research, 36 students are filled in the questionnaire, and the teacher of English subject in accounting program is interviewed. The writer analyzes the data based on the students’ needs, then the writer compared with the existing syllabus. The writer sees that existing syllabus meet the students’ need especially in learning material and learning activity. But, the students want to learn English for specific purpose, it means that the students need specific English material related with their program. Because the material that included in the syllabus is general English material.
