Abstract

This thesis is entitled School Principal's Strategy in Increasing the Number of Students in Private Schools (Case Study at Parlaungan Waru Islamic High School, Sidoarjo). This research aims to answer the research focus regarding the principal's strategy at Waru Parlaungan Islamic High School Sidoarjo, efforts to increase the number of students at Parlaungan Islamic High School Sidoarjo, and the implications of the principal's strategy in increasing the number of students at Parlaungan Islamic High School Sidoarjo. This type of research is descriptive using a qualitative approach. The subjects in this research were the principal, head of student affairs, head of school developers, students, and parents of students at Parlaungan Islamic High School Sidoarjo. Research data was obtained through interviews and documentation. Researchers used Miles and Huberman's interactive model to analyze and interpret data and used triangulation techniques to test the validity of research data. The research results show that (1) before designing a strategy, the school principal observes needs. After that, plan a strategy involving all parties. However, planning experiences obstacles such as differences in views regarding the preparation of plans, lack of commitment, and lack of research. Then, carrying out implementation, in the process there are still obstacles such as lack of adjustment of activity times, lack of communication between managers, and weak quality of human resources. Next, carry out evaluations with monthly and annual meetings, but there are obstacles such as lack of cooperation between staff, lack of participation from student parents, and not all stakeholders agree with solving the problem. (2) Efforts to increase the number of students in this school are carried out by improving the quality of students through school programs such as the Diniyah superior program, scientific writing excellence program, as well as fultsal, scout and banjari extracurriculars. Then by promoting through social media, and promoting to surrounding junior high schools. (3) the strategy implemented at this school has not been able to have implications for increasing the number of students significantly, this is due to the existence of obstacles in carrying out strategic management such as obstacles in the planning, implementation and evaluation processes, as well as due to the school's less strategic location. The school principal's efforts to ensure that strategic management runs well usually always appreciates the school's achievements, uses ideas from meetings, and directs staff to achieve work goals.
