Abstract
This research aims to analyze the impoliteness found in the speech of selected characters from the Fury Movie. The researcher was interested in investigating the impoliteness strategies used by the selected characters because as far as the researcher knows, there are very few studies on impoliteness strategies using action films as the main research. In addition, no research focuses on the speech of several characters who are the main focus of a film. This research used a qualitative approach by collecting non-numerical data. Specifically, this research used descriptive research in textual analysis to analyze the speech of selected characters through the transcript of the film Fury. Data was collected by first copying the Fury film. The analysis begins by analyzing utterances that include impolite words and responses to impoliteness, assigning specific codes of each type of impoliteness strategy and strategies to counter facial attacks, and classifying them into tables. This research reveals that the impoliteness strategy most frequently used by selected characters in the Fury Movie is the positive impoliteness strategy. Much of the choice of incivility strategy in a selected character is influenced by his or her personality. Circumstances and the harsh world of soldiers change their personalities, influencing them to use strategies of impoliteness. Apart from that, this research also reveals that the strategy for dealing with facial attacks most often found in the film Fury is the offensive escalation strategy. Most of the strategic choices for countering facial attacks used by interlocutors arise because their disagreement leads them to attack back the selected character's statements. It can be concluded that condition and environmental factors are one of the factors that can influence personality so using impoliteness strategies and strategies to counter facial attacks can arise when the speaker has attacked a positive self-image.
