Abstract

The existence of globalization in the world has resulted in significant changes, especially in the character of the nation's children. The moral decline that occurred in Indonesia is one form of change that occurs. Therefore, the government decided to improve the character of the nation, especially in the field of education. The Pancasila student profile is a character that is highlighted in the latest curriculum, the independent curriculum. With this value, the researcher aims to develop an English learning media product to build a Pancasila student profile. The importance of using learning media can increase positive impact for students in class. This study raises two research questions, namely: 1) What is the procedure for developing e-comics as English learning media to build Pancasila student profiles using narrative text content in grade 9 at UPT SMPN 3 Gresik? 2) How is the e-comic developed as a feasible English learning media to build Pancasila student profiles using narrative text content in grade 9 at UPT SMPN 3 Gresik? This study employs a mixed-method approach, utilizing both interviews as verbal data, and questionnaires numerical data as data collection instruments. The study follows a Research and Development (R&D) design Plomp model. The study involved a Media Expert, a Content Expert, an English Teacher (practitioner), and 30 students from class IX H UPT SMPN 3 Gresik. The research unfolds through distinct phases encompassing preliminary research, prototyping, and rigorous assessment to refine and substantiate the efficacy of e-comics as English learning media. Rigorous quantitative analyses applied to validation and student responses reveal compelling outcomes. The developed e-comics emerge as not only valid but also practical, demonstrating pronounced feasibility in facilitating the learning of narrative text among students. This study proposes numerous suggestions for educators and learners on the utilization of e-comics as English learning media to build Pancasila student profiles.
