Abstract
Extracurricular activities play an important role in supporting students’ academic achievement and personal development beyond formal classroom learning. One of the English extracurricular programs at MTsN Gresik is ‘FLIES’ (Fun Learning Interactive English Society), which aims to enhance students’ English skills through interactive and enjoyable learning activities. This study aims to investigate the relationship between students’ perceptions of the ‘FLIES’ extracurricular activity and their learning outcomes. This research employed a quantitative correlational design. The population of this study consisted of seventh-grade students of MTsN Gresik who participated in the ‘FLIES’ extracurricular program during the 2024/2025 academic year. The data were collected using a questionnaire to measure students’ perceptions and documentation to obtain students’ learning outcomes. The collected data were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation technique. The findings indicate that students’ perceptions of the ‘FLIES’ extracurricular activity are categorized as good. In addition, students’ learning outcomes in the ‘FLIES’ program are also classified in the good category. Furthermore, the correlation analysis reveals a significant relationship between students’ perceptions and their learning outcomes in the ‘FLIES’ extracurricular activity. This result suggests that positive students’ perceptions contribute to better engagement and improved learning performance. In conclusion, students’ perceptions have a meaningful and significant correlation with their learning outcomes in the ‘FLIES’ extracurricular activity. Therefore, it is recommended that schools and extracurricular tutors design engaging, supportive, and interactive learning activities to optimize students’ learning outcomes.
