Abstract

This study is to see the process of improving students’ writing skill in narrative text for Tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Gedangan through Storybird application. In addition, this study is also focused on students’ responses toward using Storybird application in their learning writing process. The subjects of this research are X IPS 3 and X IPA 2 class that consisted 72 students. The method used in this study is Experimental research which the writer works collaboratively with the English teacher. This study carried out in 3 meetings. The test, observation and questioner were the data gathered in this study. The results of this study indicate that there is significant differences between students were taught using Storybird application and conventional teaching (with paper as media). Students were taught using Storybird application showed that their scores are higher than students were taught using conventional teaching. The score improvement of control class between pre test and post test was for about 30%, whether the score improvement of control class between pre test and post test was for about 74%. It means that the significant improvement scores were obtained by experimental class. In other words, the Storybird application can help students to improve students’ writing ability and score in narrative text. Besides that, the result of learning process observation in class and students interview by questioner showed that the students were enthusiast, happy and motivated toward using Storybird application in English writing. Students felt helped by this application to practice in writing more.
