This research used a qualitative descriptive method to analyze data. The procedure applied in this research is descriptive and explanatory, the researcher used jazz songs from YouTube music playlists created by redlist.com to describe the data and the researcher used the website azlyrics.com to analyze the lyrics. The researcher analyzed based on Kennedy's (1979) theory, which consists of comparative, contradictory, and correlative. The data used is song lyrics formed into text. This study found a total 32 data of figurative languages that are found in 12 selected jazz songs. From the results of the analysis, it was found that the types of personification and hyperbole were the types that were often used, with a total of 9 data. This is followed by the metaphor type, namely 8 data, and then the litotes type has a total of 2 data, namely 2 data. Next, the lowest data is for the types of irony, synecdoche, symbol, and simile, namely only 1 data. It was found that jazz songs use figurative language to express deeper emotions, images, and stories. The meaning of each song from the figurative language type is divided into three types. First, comparative, which consists of personification as a description of human characteristics in objects other than humans. Then, metaphor is a comparison between two things indirectly, and simile is a comparison that uses conjunctions. Second, contradictions are found in the type of hyperbole, such as the use of excessive statements, litotes as an expression of something that aims to humiliate, and irony as the use of conveying words that are contrary to what is intended. Then, in this analysis, the only correlatives found were the synecdoche type as the use of a word to represent a whole, and the symbol type as conveying a comparison of an object that has a representation of another object.
