Abstract

This research aims to uncover the mystery surrounding an artificially unknown place in Christina Henry's Good Girls Don't Die by analyzing the novel's setting. This research only focuses on two research formulations: (1) the description of an artificially unknown place in Christina Henry's Good Girls Don't Die; (2) the way the three main characters discover the secret behind an artificially unknown place in Christina Henry's Good Girls Don't Die. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, which describes the findings. In addition, the researcher uses the New Criticism perspective to explain how the characters in the novel Good Girls Don't Die reveal the perpetrators and motives behind the unknown artificial place and applied John G. Cawelti's mystery genre formula to get a maximum finding. The findings of this study show that an unfamiliar artificial place has the same situation as real life. However, the place also shows the strangeness of a difference in real life. Then the action of the main characters who managed to reveal the strangeness using a mystery formula that found a clue to find a conclusion in the form of an answer to cause and effect. Finally, the results of the investigation process reveal a reason for the existence of the artificial place. This reason is a motive of revenge and spite against the main characters as a woman who is brave and intelligent compared to other women and even a man.
