Abstract
This study aims to analyze the use of violating the maxim of quantity by the characters in The Neighborhood Season 4 in episodes 15, 16, and 17 to create humor. This study is also to obtain results from the frequency of violating maxim of quantity used by the characters in the sitcom The Neighborhood Season 4 to create humor. The research question for this study is, (1) What are the violation maxim of quantity used by the characters in The Neighborhood Season 4 to create humor. This study used a qualitative approach. The researcher described the phenomenon of violating maxim of quantity to create humor in the situation comedy entitled The Neighborhood Season 4 through the narratives of the characters in the situation comedy. The aim is to be able to understand deeply the analysis of the characters who create humor by classifying and identifying their words in violating maxim of quantity. Also, the researcher analyzes how often the violating maxim of quantity is used by the characters in The Neighborhood season 4 to create humor. With this aim, the researcher used a qualitative approach to get the results from the questions. This study revealed that the violating maxim of quantity was used by the characters to create humor in their utterances. The characters in the sitcom The Neighborhood Season 4 in all the episodes studied used violation maxim of quantity with the characters speaking circumlocution or not to the point, being uninformative, speaking too short, speaking too much, and repeating certain words. This study also revealed that the characters often violated the maxim of quantity by talking too much to create humor which resulted in 85 utterances (67.46%). The characters in The Neighborhood Season 4 create a lot of humor by violating maxim of quantity when the speakers talk too much by giving more information to the listener than is required.
