Abstract

Peer assessment strategy becomes one of the essential parts of the writing process because there will be feedback or suggestion from peers in doing a review. This study is aimed to investigate the teacher’s procedure and students’ responses when using peer assessment in writing recount text. This study was qualitative research that used observation sheet, interviews, and questionnaires as an instrument to collect the data. An English Teacher and 30 Students of X IPS 1 at SMAN 1 Kundur participated in this study. The findings of this study are; the researcher found two stages the teacher had done in the class: modeling session and peer assessment process. This research also found that peer assessment in recount text has a positive student response. This research postulates some recommendations for teachers and students regarding using peer assessment to facilitate writing recount text that will significantly contribute to the advancement of the English Language educational field.
