Abstract

This study aims to answer the research question: How do Nikita Gill’s selected poems reveal the relationship between elemental imagery and human emotion? It studies the poetry collection, published in 2016, which has received positive reader responses. This study uses a qualitative approach, focusing on clear, systematic descriptions of the poetry being studied. It applies heuristic and hermeneutic readings to interpret the works. The data were collected by first reading the poetry in the book and identifying similar works. The analysis continued by placing the imagery in the selected poetry. Finally, the researcher interpreted the imagery and understood the author's ideas. The results demonstrate that imagery is essential for conveying emotional experience, forming meaning, and bringing the ideas of the collection's many sections together. Instead of serving as ornamentation, imagery becomes the primary means of expressing feelings like love, sadness, resiliency, identity, and rebirth.
