Abstract
Communicative competence is a competency that is the goal of learning English at the secondary school level in Permendikbud Number 58 of 2014. The 2013 curriculum used a scientific method, which may give learners with realistic learning so that they can simultaneously develop students' communicative competence. But in reality, the use of media by teachers who use a scientific approach, especially student worksheets, has not been well developed and practical. Thus, the researcher decided to develop student worksheets based on the scientific approach to improve students' English communicative competence. The aim of this research is to describe the process of developing and practicality of student worksheets that are developed by researcher based on a scientific approach to improve English communicative competence. This study included development research, which employed a 4D development model established by Thiagarajan et al. However, it is implemented only up to the third stage: Define, Design and Development. This research involved 2 English teachers at MTs Darul Ulum Waru. Document analysis, interviews and teacher response questionnaires are the data collection techniques in this study. The results of the research are student worksheets based on the scientific approach to improve English communicative competence and student worksheets in the "very good/very practical" category with a total average score resulting from practicality of 4.6. Therefore, the worksheets based on the scientific approach to improve English communicative competence that have been developed are declared feasible and practical.
