Abstract

In contemporary education, digital literacy is deemed essential. Previous research shows that digital literacy has a significant impact on English writing activities. Therefore, this mixed design research was conducted with the objective of testing the correlation between students' digital literacy and English writing skills as well as describing students' perceptions of the contribution of digital literacy to writing skills. Online questionnaires, writing tests, and interviews were carried out to gather data from grade 9 students of SMPN 3 Gresik. The findings reveal a strong and significant correlation (p-value = 0.000007, correlation coefficient = 0.720) between digital literacy and writing skills, supporting Spearman's correlation theory. Additionally, digital literacy contributes significantly to students' English writing skills by providing resources, fostering self-reliance, enhancing efficiency, promoting collaborative writing, satisfying emotional needs, motivating students, overcoming language barriers, and positively influencing academic achievements. In essence, this study underscores the pivotal role of digital literacy as a medium for advancing students' English writing skills, emphasizing its multifaceted contributions to the learning process.
