Abstract
One of the basic skills in learning English is reading. Teachers are expected to help their students develop this skill, both orally and in writing form. To achieve this goal, teachers can use certain reading strategies. This study demonstrates the implementation of the Intensive Reading (IR) strategy to some high school students at an Islamic boarding school in East Java named Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School. Additionally, students' responses to the strategy's implementation are presented. This study used a qualitative design by interviewing a supervising teacher, three students as mentors, and four students as participants. This was also accompanied by documentation of activities during the implementation, which is used as data triangulation for data validity. The results showed that some students found some difficulty when following the IR. However, it is believed to improve students' reading skills, particularly in understanding the contents of a text. Students can also enrich their vocabulary, learn grammar, and expand their knowledge. Finally, students can be more confident in their English than before.
